Lake Tanglewood Fire Department was formed in 1972 with a 1940 Chevrolet truck housed in a small steel building built entirely by volunteers.
Over the years Lake Tanglewood Volunteer Fire/EMS has grown into a top quality department providing First Responder Services, Fire/ Rescue, and Emergency Medical Services to our residents and the surrounding areas.
Emergency Medical Services became a reality in 1980, using a ’76 Suburban as an ambulance. Seventeen citizens became certified EMT’s by the spring of 1981. The upgrading and expansion of services continued with a new fire engine, pagers, radios, fire hydrant installation, new ambulance, tanker trucks, grass trucks and the enlargement of the firehouse.
Billing for transporting EMS patients was initiated in 1993, allowing extra income to combine with grant funding, enabling the purchase and repair of equipment without added expense to Lake Tanglewood residents. A Road Rescue Super MedicType III Ambulance was purchased in 2006 and provides Basic Life Support, Advanced Life Support, and Mobile Intensive Care levels of service.
At our latest ISO inspection in 2005, Lake Tanglewood insurance rates dropped five points, from an ISO rating of 10 to a rating of 5 on the ISO scale. This is due to the dedication of firefighters in training, service and response, continued upgrade and addition of equipment, installation of fire hydrants, and the continued strong support of our great community.
We are always in need of new members, both men and women, who are interested in serving their community.
