Volunteer Firefighters are a breed unto themselves.

Whoever heard of a person who is willing to be on twenty-four Hour duty without pay for the dubious privilege of protecting  their neighbor’s property?

Whoever heard of a person who will dash from their desk and ride a “fire wagon” to the scene of the alarm ruining their suit, neglecting their business, risking their life and exhausting themselves physically, not for money but because they believe in serving their community.

Whoever heard of a person who will give up their favorite TV show, postpone some reading or some “do it yourself” house chores they’ve been planning (plus sacrifice their evenings with their family) just to attend a meeting where they learn how to function as a volunteer servant on behalf of  their fellowmen?

Whoever heard (in this day and age) of a person who is crazy enough to be worrying about the other fellows?

Well, if you don’t know the answer to those questions, look around our firehouse.

You’ll see people who aren’t out protesting and complaining because they’re too busy living up to the image of a good American.

You’ll see people just like yourself who care what happens to their Neighbors and their community and their country.

Do you really think you have what it takes?

Do you think you can take the challenge?

Do you think you can take the pressure?

Do you think you can take the heat?

The real question is are you ready?

Attack Firefighter

An attack firefighter is a full level firefighter. Firefighters wear Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and are capable of making entry in live fire conditions for direct fire fighting combat.  Attack firefighters also perform rescue operations in a live fire situation.

Requirements to become an attack firefighter are:

  1. BulletBasic Level Firefighter as defined by SFFMA

  2. BulletContinously train on skills required for the attack firefighter

  3. BulletSCBA Certified

Support Firefighter

A support firefighter is not a full level firefighter, but they support firefighting efforts at actual fire emergencies. The support firefighter can do many of the skills that attack firefighters can but are restricted when it comes to working within the toxic fire environments, or within what is called the “hot” zone of firefighting.

The support firefighter does not wear Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and typically does not take part in direct firefighting combat.

Support firefighters provide critical services such as engine pumper or water tender operations, lighting and other auxiliary equipment, filling of SCBA’s and firefighter accountability just to name a few. Additionally, support firefighters can be fully functional firefighters in the arenas of wildland firefighting, or crash rescue (vehicle extrication), or even EMS.

Department Auxillary

The department auxillary member provides an invaluable service the the volunteer firefighters on the fire ground.  These members provide refreshments and food to our fire fighters and fire fighters of the mutual departments on the scene.  They are there day or night, regardless of the weather, hours on end to make sure all of the fire fighters are taken care of.
